I imagine this person as utterly unbothered. Disposing of the mask required to walk through society in service of making others feel safe when in their presence. The survival instinct once so deeply ingrained is no longer necessary. Boredom appears when bored, frustration appears when caused, and codes are never switched. This person acknowledges their worth, and expects others to respectfully and monetarily fall in line.
So I try my best to come correct. My painting is characterized by a rich color palette of red and pink hues. It’s never muted or diluted in an effort to honor the vibrancy of those presented. In these evanescent snapshots of Black women expressing the wide breadth of emotionality within us, I use color to amplify their impact.
