With this painting, I depict sisterly protection in its formidable form. Sibling dynamics are my favorite to engage with, from the Succession clan to Charmed’s powerful three (well, technically four). However, my love for black sisterhood is unrivaled – specifically my relationship with my own sisters. Having someone to protect and be protected by is immensely powerful. My work presents crystalized moments of an imagined future in which Black women are protected and adorned. I see protection as more than physical safety. It’s safeguarding energy, renewing confidence when wavering, stewardship of shared history, and so much more.
Derived from an interest in medium specific exploration, the clay frame holding this work serves as another layer of protection for our sisters presented.
